How do you plan to ring in the new year? Whether you’ll be at a New Year’s Eve party, a bar or in a more low-key setting like at home on the couch, we have cocktails to ring in the new year.

What makes a great New Year’s Eve cocktail is hard to define, and also subjective. Many New Years cocktails feature champagne, the traditional drink to the new year, but this list ventures beyond that limit for some exciting alternatives. (We also have bubbly champagne cocktails if you want them. And some classic winter cocktails.)
These drinks are easy to make, yet they have that wow factor you’d expect from the best New Year’s Eve cocktails. That way you don’t have to spend all night tending bar.
Bonus Mocktails and Concoctions
49er Gold Rush Shot

Porto Flip Cocktail Recipe
Porto Flip cocktail with ruby port, brandy, and a fresh egg yolk, shaken cold and finished with grated nutmeg for a rich, silky drink.

New York Cocktail
Whiskey, lime, sugar and grenadine. There’s something fortifying about this drink – something that just makes you feel good.
The Gin Martini
This classic gin Martini cocktail recipe is about as dry as the Martini can get. If it’s too dry for you, just add more vermouth. The more vermouth, the less dry the drink will be. Be sure to use a great gin that you enjoy, because it will dominate the flavor.
Grand Apple
Apple brandy, cognac and Grand Marnier. Distinctive and sophisticated, without being a challenge to your tastebuds.
New York Sour
The New York Sour is an interesting looking cocktail because it supposedly floats a little red wine on top of a whiskey-colored base – only it must depend what exact wine and whiskey you’re using, because for me, the red wine makes a beeline for the bottom. But this drink also bears the distinction of being a good thing to do with leftover or cheap red wine. You can’t say that about many things in life.
Pomegranate Martini with Gin
The Pomegranate Martini has a number of variations with vodka, but this version features gin. The botanical notes are balanced by the fruity pomegranate juice and zesty citrus flavors.
